Not just another Sunday

not just another sunday……

Here we go, my first blog, not only out of bed on a Sunday morning but also during a lockdown with very uncertain future in the labour market, especially around transformation and skills development.  Please bear with me in the beginning. I am used to write courseware and information documents and normally use the third person based on the facts and outcomes at hand.

The only thing I know about blogging, is firstly the definition and secondly from a movie I watched about cooking.  So, hold in there, like all things in life, I believe practice makes it better.

In these blogs I want to share with you my perspective and view on the current status of Skills Development, Employment Equity, BBBEE, POPI and Occupational Health and Safety issues which will influence our labour market and company compliance.

Just thinking of all the changes in the last few week that will impact our compliance, especially skills development in the workplace.  We look at the SDL holiday.  What does it really mean, what impact and effect will this have not only on my BEE scorecard but also on my Mandatory & Discretionary SETA grants, which is a vital income to assist with my skills spend in my company.

Employment Equity changes coming, which will have an impact on your BEE scorecard as well as becoming sector specific and more accountability to the delivering of Employment equity planning within the workforce.

Will we receive some extension on our BEE verification or maybe carry over the current scorecard to the next period ? What is meant with more transformation will be implemented with the upturn of the economy?

Another point I would like to touch on in the coming weeks, is the sensitive subject of retrenchment.  It is never easy to let staff members go due to operational requirements.  What can we do? Are there any other options available before I look at retrenchment, that will benefit both my company and my employees.

Oh, yes and don’t let us forget about the forever pending POPI act, when will it come into play and what measurements would need to be put in place and how will compliance work?

These are just a few subjects I would like to cover in this blog on a weekly basis.  My opinion, my view and the impact it will have on the labour market.  Sometimes we will predict correctly and sometimes, well, you know, be a bit skewed.  We live in such a fast paced time and with the Covid-19, legislation changes on a daily basis.

Let’s hope this first blog will make it to the website. You know I must get the OK from my web & marketing team.

Until next week.

Stay safe!!
